This year’s Culture Crawl will take place:
September 23, 2017
RAIN OR SHINE
You have heard of a “Pub Crawl”. We are presenting an ”Art and Culture Crawl” with musicians, visual artists, performing artists, film makers, craft artisans and more stationed throughout the downtown- in our restaurants, salons, retail shops and more. This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Cultural Tapestry of Rahway”.
Festival goers will stroll through the full downtown of Rahway. Starting at the ART Building on Irving and Seminary, dance performances earlier and indie bands later liven up the parking lot of this historic building.
Our Mini Film Festival will fill the seats in the Hamilton Stage’s theater. Short films will be playing on repetition all throughout the day. Dance, music, an artist gallery, and spoken word will activate all areas of the Hamilton Stage. This year’s “can’t miss performance” is the group Grounded Aerial who will literally be swinging from the rafters in the lobby of the Hamilton Stage!
As you crawl up Main and Irving Streets, take part in a drum circle, chalk a haiku poem on a building, make your mark on a public art mural, express yourself through karaoke, visit the vendors villages, shop in the stores and grab a bite off the restaurant’s special “Culture Crawl food and drink menus” designed to keep you moving through the town, or take a break from all the action and order off their full menu for the complete dining experience!
At the corner of Cherry Street and Main you will be transported overseas as you experience the Chinese Community Center’s Chinese Festival. Famous singers, food, art, traditional dress and decorations, completely transform this section of town.
For those of you with younger artists, you might want to start your crawl at the Rahway Public Library’s Creator Corner! Music, Art, and dance partnered with bounce houses, and face painting will inspire your youngster’s inner virtuoso!
There is so much to see over a large area, but don’t worry, there is free shuttle service! Connecting our free and paid parking areas as well as all the major venues to make sure you don’t miss a thing! (Link to the shuttle map coming soon.)
This is a once a year Arts event you do NOT want to miss!
